Along with many other local races, the Bird-in-Hand 5K and Half Marathon were not held in September 2020 due to the pandemic. Refunds were sent out to every runner who had registered, with approximately 150–180 runners choosing a virtual option. This year our race is only in-person; a virtual option is not offered.
A new race director and timer, Lowell Ladd from West Chester, will be helping with the event management. He has extensive running experience and also know-how about organizing and managing races. His company, 2L Race Services, uses a system that makes personal times and photos at the finish line available on runners’ smart phones. It also sends short video clips of runners crossing the finish line to their phones.
